An offline-first inspection app for field teams — with on-device data validation and zero lost submissions, even in basements with no signal.

A property management company was running inspections on paper forms, then transcribing results into spreadsheets back at the office. Data arrived 2–3 days late, was riddled with errors, and gave no real-time visibility to the operations team.
I built a React Native app with a SQLite offline store and a conflict-resolution sync engine. Field workers capture photos, structured data, and free text on-device. Validation rules run locally before submission. A BigQuery pipeline aggregates results and feeds a Looker dashboard for the ops team.
Conflict resolution for multi-user offline sync is genuinely hard. We used a last-writer-wins strategy with server-side timestamps for most fields, and a manual merge UI for the handful of fields where conflicts mattered (compliance status, severity ratings).
The paper process was fully retired within 6 weeks of rollout. The ops team now monitors live inspection status from a central dashboard and catches compliance issues before inspectors leave the site.

The most common gap I find: key user actions tracked in the app but never arriving clean. Step 2 in the guide shows exactly where.
